Alfred Joseph Hitchcock, KBE (August 13, 1899 - April 29, 1980), was an English film director widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the history of cinema. Born in Leytonstone, Essex, England, he began his career in the British film industry in the silent era. After a string of successful films in the United Kingdom, he moved to Hollywood in the 1930s, where he became one of the most acclaimed and prolific directors.

Hitchcock's films are known for their suspenseful plots, eerie atmospheres, and innovative use of camera techniques. Some of his most iconic works include Psycho, Vertigo, Rear Window, and North by Northwest. He also directed numerous television programs, including Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Twilight Zone.

Hitchcock's contributions to the film industry have been recognized with numerous awards and accolades, including five Academy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and a BAFTA Fellowship. He is often referred to as "the Master of Suspense" for his ability to create intense and nail-biting cinematic experiences.
