Pitching Prevails as the Tigers & Cubs Win on Tuesday, but the White Sox Lose

Detroit Tigers 3, Kansas City Royals 1

The Detroit Tigers defeated the Kansas City Royals 3-1 on Tuesday night at Comerica Park. Matthew Boyd started for the Tigers and pitched 6.1 innings, allowing one run on six hits and two walks. He struck out seven batters. Joe Jimenez, Buck Farmer, and Gregory Soto combined to pitch the final 2.2 innings, allowing no runs on two hits and two walks. Soto earned his second save of the season. Jeimer Candelario hit a solo home run in the first inning to give the Tigers an early lead. Harold Castro added an RBI single in the third inning, and Miguel Cabrera hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to provide the Tigers with their final run. The Royals scored their only run of the game on a solo home run by Salvador Perez in the fourth inning. The Tigers improved to 14-14 with the win, while the Royals fell to 11-17.

Chicago Cubs 5, Arizona Diamondbacks 1

The Chicago Cubs defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-1 on Tuesday night at Wrigley Field. Kyle Hendricks started for the Cubs and pitched 6.0 innings, allowing one run on six hits and two walks. He struck out five batters. Ryan Tepera, Andrew Chafin, and Craig Kimbrel combined to pitch the final 3.0 innings, allowing no runs on two hits and two walks. Kimbrel earned his fifth save of the season. Patrick Wisdom hit a two-run homer in the first inning to give the Cubs an early lead. The Chicago White Sox lost to the Houston Astros 5-2 on Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park. Aaron Bummer, Evan Marshall, and Codi Heuer combined to pitch the final 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks. The White Sox fell to 17-11 with the loss, while the Astros improved to 18-10.
